Participating Organizations

The ten Participating Organizations (PO) contribute to the IOMC with the purpose of promoting coordination of the policies and activities, pursued, jointly or separately to achieve the sound management of chemicals in relation to human health and the environment.

Meetings and summary reports

The IOMC Participating Organizations meet twice a year to coordinate their policies and activities on sound chemicals management. From time to time the IOMC convenes meetings involving additional organizations to discuss issues of mutual interest. Summary reports of these IOMC and inter-agency meetings are available here below.

Global Framework on Chemicals

The Global Framework on Chemicals, adopted by the ICCM5 in Bonn, Germany in 2023, provides a vision for a planet free of harm from chemicals and waste, for a safe, healthy and sustainable future.

IOMC and its member organizations accepted the invitation at ICCM5 in 2023 to support development of GFC Implementation Programmes.

The Berlin Forum meetings address the global pollution crisis by focusing on and fostering implementation of the Global Framework on Chemicals (GFC).

In adopting the 17 Goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, world leaders outlined a transformational course of action for the people, planet and prosperity. Chemicals and waste management are related to achieving every aspect of this Agenda.

The IOMC Toolbox has been redesigned to provide easier and more direct access to eight management schemes, six toolkits, and more than 500 IOMC tools, guidance documents, and training materials.
This new and improved platform enables users to access information with less steps and less clicks. The IOMC Toolbox can now also be viewed on all devices, including tablets and mobile phones.

Indicators

In order to contribute to tracking future progress of SAICM, at ICCM4 the IOMC proposed a concise set of quantitative indicators from verifiable sources and for which global data are available. Indicator data is displayed in map form wherever possible to provide quick access to the country or region of interest.

Mercury group

The participating organizations of the Mercury Group of the IOMC are ILO, UNDP, UNEP, UNIDO, UNITAR, WHO, World Bank, and the OECD, and the group involves the Secretariats of the Minamata Convention and the Global Environment Facility.
