Indicators of progress in implementing SAICM
In order to contribute to tracking future progress of SAICM, at ICCM4 the IOMC proposed a concise set of quantitative indicators from verifiable sources and for which global data are available. Indicator data is displayed in map form wherever possible to provide quick access to the country or region of interest. The organizations listed are responsible for the information displayed.
The indicators for which data are now available are:
- Number of countries that have achieved core capacities for chemicals under the International Health Regulations (WHO)
- Number of countries with legislation in place to manage industrial and consumer chemicals (OECD)
- Number of countries with National Profiles (UNITAR)
- Number of countries with a PRTR (UNITAR)
- Number of countries with Poisons centres (WHO)
- Countries with controls for lead in decorative paint (WHO and UNEP)
- Countries which have implemented pesticide legislation based on the FAO/WHO International Code of Conduct (FAO)
- Number of parties to the Basel Convention
- Number of parties to the Rotterdam Convention
- Number of parties to the Stockholm Convention
- Number of parties to the Minamata Convention
- Implementation of the GHS (UNITAR, ILO, UNECE)
- Number of member States with national Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) profiles (ILO)
- Number of member States with national recording and notification systems that allow regular reporting against SDG indicator 8.8.1 (frequency rates of fatal and non-fatal occupational injuries) (ILO)
- Number of ratifications of up-to-date ILO Conventions related to chemical risks (ILO)
