At the invitation of the Finnish Presidency, the Chair and Secretariat of the IOMC met with members of the European Council Working Party (international chemicals) on 14 November 2019 to brief EU member states on the functioning and activities of the IOMC and share thoughts and exchange views regarding IOMC's possible role and enhancement in the Beyond 2020 framework.
The IOMC representatives emphasised the formal yet flexible nature of the IOMC and its members that represent a broad range of sectors; its engagement with many agencies and conventions beyond the IOMC membership; its views on additional measures to achieve multisectoral engagement; and the interest of the IOMC to play a strong and collaborative role with all stakeholders in the Beyond 2020 framework.
