3rd Berlin Forum on Chemicals and Sustainability – Implementing the Global Framework on Chemicals

The 3rd Berlin Forum on Chemicals and Sustainability was hosted by HE Steffi Lemke, German Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection and co-hosted by the Inter-Organization Programme for the Sound Management of Chemicals (IOMC) on 5-6 September 2024 as a high-level virtual event. The overall goal of the Forum was to foster knowledge-sharing and strengthen global multi-stakeholder collaboration and action to address the global pollution crisis by focusing on and fostering implementation of the  Global Framework on Chemicals: For a Planet Free of Harm from Chemicals and Waste (GFC).

The Forum featured 68 speakers from all stakeholder groups and over 600 on-line participants in order to take stock of progress in implementing the GFC, showcase initiatives already underway, share experiences in chemical and waste management, and catalyze further action and partnerships.

The forum also included:

  • remarks from the German Federal Ministers of Environment and of Health
  • statements from the heads of IOMC organizations, including UNDP, UNEP, ILO, and WHO
  • keynote speech from the World Bank
  • many other important contributions from governments, the private sector, civil society, and the research community.
